Fire victim assistance: where to start

After a residential fire, immediate needs can include safe shelter, food, clothing, medication replacement, transportation and help navigating insurance or local services.

Immediate local help

Contact local emergency management, the fire department’s non-emergency line when appropriate, and established disaster-relief organizations serving your area. For urgent safety or medical needs, use emergency services.

Document losses and assistance

Keep copies of incident reports, receipts, insurance communications and assistance applications. Different programs may require documentation of need or loss.

Charitable assistance

FFCF says it provides qualifying fire/disaster victims with aid for housing, medical care, food, clothing and related needs. Eligibility and application decisions belong to the organization; see its official site for current requirements.

Avoid payment scams

Legitimate aid applications should be verified through official organizational channels. Be cautious with unsolicited requests for fees, gift cards or sensitive financial information.
